About Julian J. Robinson

Julian is currently a Deputy General Secretary of the People’s National Party, a post he was elected to in 2003. In October 2008, he was elected Chairman of the South East St. Andrew constituency and is currently the Party's candidate for the seat for the next General Elections.
From 1999 - 2001, he served as the Chairman of the People's National Party (United Kingdom).
In 2001, he was elected a member of the Executive Committee and the National Executive Council of the People's National Party where he still serves.
Professionally, Julian has made an impact on the growth and development of the Information and Communications Technology sector. He returned to Jamaica in 2001 and worked at JAMPRO as Manager for Investment Promotion where his main responsibilities were the development of strategies and programmes to attract and promote Information & Communication Technologies (ICT). He was instrumental in attracting a number of companies to establish offshore outsourcing operations in Jamaica. Prior to that, from 1996 to 1999, Julian worked in London with IBM UK Ltd as a Management Consultant, where he advised European companies on how to use Information Technologies to achieve competitive advantages. He then went to Scient, an Internet consulting firm as an eBusiness Consultant where he helped companies to build ebusinesses.
Julian's record of service has seen him serve on the Board of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, The Institute of Sports and as a Member of National Advisory Committee on Local Government Reform. He was appointed to the Board of the HEART Trust/NTA in 2001 and served as Chairman of the Finance & ICT Committees. At the same time he was also appointed to the Boards of the Factories Corporation of Jamaica and the Kingston and Montego Bay Freezone Company, and served as the Chairman of the Finance Committees. |
In 1990, he was the first recipient of The Isaac Henry Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association to the student who best exemplifies the qualities of the ideal student/athlete – outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom, together with good discipline and leadership qualities.
Julian studied at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Management and Economics. He served as Vice President of the Guild of Undergraduates from 1992 - 3 and was the recipient of the University's Premier Award for Leadership. In 1994, he left Jamaica to pursue further studies and obtained a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign two years later. In 1994 he was awarded the University of Illinois MBA Association Fellowship Award. In his final year, he participated in an International Exchange Program at Manchester Business School in the United Kingdom.
Julian is also a sportsman. He distinguished himself representing Campion College at football and cricket and playing on numerous successful teams. These include the winning Sunlight Cup cricket teams of 1987 and 1988. In 1986, he became the first schoolboy to score a century in the Jackie Hendricks U14 Competition. At Campion, he obtained 8 CXCs and 3 “A” Levels. He was also a House Captain and Prefect. From 1984 to 1988 he represented Melbourne Cricket Club in Senior, Junior and Minor Cup competitions. In his spare time, he runs long distances and has completed a marathon and three half marathons. He enjoys watching sports. |
